The Mat-Su Sertoma Club, through its annual fundraiser, the Mat-Su Plunge, raises funds to support hearing health in the Mat-Su Valley through education, hearing testing and support of services that assist individuals with deafness and hearing loss. We also proudly provide the following scholarships to local youth.
Youth Summer Camp Scholarship: “I will not be left out.”
Purpose: To provide an Alaskan high school student who is deaf or hard of hearing the opportunity to see another part of the world for a life changing experience.
Amount: Transportation and cost of week long summer camp at location of choice*
Deadline: November 10 , 2017
(*Previous winners went to Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C.)
Jim Vrooman Educational Exchange Scholarship: “Because we don’t know what impact we make on others.”
Purpose: To provide assistance to students who are seeking to develop international experience toward their proven goal.
Deadline: December 31, 2017
3. University Scholarship: Two (2) separate grants for students pursuing higher education.
Purpose: To aid students who are following an education path in the health field or students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Amount: 2 – $1,000 each

2017 Scholarship Winners
Mat-Su Sertoma awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Gary Chang, who attends the University of Kentucky, College of Dentistry. Born with Large Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome (a syndrome associated with progressive hearing loss), he is pursuing a degree in the field of pediatric dentistry.
